The Story
Background
Cherry Grove Township Fire Department is a combination fire and EMS agency in northern Michigan. Its full-time EMS operation works alongside paid-on-call firefighters across multiple townships, with EMS call volume on pace for about 800 calls in 2026.
Challenge
High-stress EMS calls made it easy for details to be missed when providers reconstructed events from memory. Incomplete narratives and missing data could also create downstream billing rejections, while the department wanted to keep providers focused on accurate patient care documentation.
Solution
Providers review Axon body-camera footage on a second screen while completing their First Due ePCR, using the recording to verify details before finalizing the narrative. They then use First Due AI to help populate NEMSIS fields from that narrative. The department is also working with First Due on a deeper Axon integration, but that direct integration is still in development.

Providers report saving roughly 10 minutes on report completion, while report accuracy has improved substantially.
